About BaseCamp

BaseCamp Sign

BaseCamp began in 2020 with a simple idea: create a place where people could connect with nature, slow down from the pace of everyday life, and spend meaningful time together. Set on 21 acres in charming Humboldt, Kansas, BaseCamp is designed as an outdoor experience as much as it is a place to stay. As the trailhead to the South Wind Rail Trail, guests can enjoy the trail, paddle or fish on the 3-acre quarry pond, explore the bike skills course, or simply enjoy the open space that surrounds them.

With modern cabins, cozy mini A-frames, and full service RV sites, BaseCamp offers a comfortable place to settle in while staying connected to nature.

Over the years we’ve welcomed guests from across the Midwest and beyond. That same simple idea to slow down, connect and be together continues to guide everything we do at BaseCamp.

Come for the Trails. Stay for the Stars.

Meet Jon, BaseCamp’s resident hospitality aficionado. He’s the one who makes your visit possible and does everything he can to ensure your stay is all you hoped it would be. From business development and community partnerships to the day-to-day details that shape each guest’s experience, he approaches every part of BaseCamp with care and intention. With hospitality at the center of it all, Jon is known for his attention to detail, his genuine care for people, and his commitment to creating memorable stays.

Before moving to Humboldt, Jon was a guest just like you. He visited for the first time in 2022, and somewhere between that first evening around the fire and the discovery of the Midwest’s best tiny town, BaseCamp and Humboldt stayed with him. With more than 20 years in hospitality and a deep love for the outdoors, that first visit sparked something that kept calling him back.

Over the next year and a half, Jon returned to BaseCamp again and again with his family. When the opportunity arose to become part of the story, they didn’t hesitate. What began as a place to visit quickly became a place to build something meaningful, not just for themselves, but for every guest who arrives.
